Armidale Emmaus Church members believe:
- The Bible is our authority. Although it was written by many men it was
inspired by God and is the Word of God (2 Peter 1:20-21). - The Bible teaches that God cannot lie (Titus 1:2) and therefore we can have
full confidence that what the Bible teaches is true. - No one can come to know anything about God except those things which He
has revealed in His Word (1 Corinthians 1:21) - God is sovereign and His eternal plan will be fulfilled (Ephesians 1:3-10).
Scripture tells us that He is eternal (Psalm 90:2); He is unchangeable
(James 1:17); He exists everywhere (Hebrews 4:13); He knows about us
(Luke 12:7); nothing is impossible for Him (Luke 1:37) and He is absolutely
holy (1 John 1:5). - God requires us to have faith that He exists and that He rewards those who
earnestly seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). - All have sinned and need to be reconciled to God (Romans 3:23) but despite
our sin God loves us (John 3:16). - Jesus is God’s eternal Son with the divine attributes of His Father. He has
the being of God (Colossians 2:9). He created all things (John 1:3); He
preserves all things (Hebrews 1:3) and by Him all things consist (Colossians
1:17). He was born to a human mother and was subject to human limitations
of the body (John 4:1-9; Mark 4:36-41 and John 19:28). He was human in
every respect, as we read in Hebrews 2:17 but He was sinless (Hebrews
4:15). - Jesus was crucified and paid our penalty for our sin but was raised again to
life on the 3 rd day after death (Acts 2:23, Galatians 1:4 & 1 Peter 3:8) - The Holy Spirit has the Divine attributes of God the Father. He has a
particular work in our redemption. He calls us to turn to God in repentance
and believe the truth about Jesus (Acts 20:21-22). He does this through
opening our eyes to the Word of God (James 1:18). The Holy Spirit unites us
to Christ when we believe and repent (Ephesians 2:5) and we are adopted
into God’s family (Galatians 3:26-4:7) - Christians are justified by faith only. This means that God has declared us to
be righteous through our faith, as Christ has paid the price for our sins
(Romans 3:21-24). Our justification is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-9) - The Holy Spirit within us desires us to live holy lives, as we read in James
4:5. We do have a part to play, as we work out our salvation with fear and
trembling (Philippians 2:12-13). Because we are joined to Christ the Holy
Spirit is able to change us to be more and more like Christ through the
application of the Word of God (2 Corinthians 3:18) - Our Christian duties are to love God with all our heart, mind, soul and
strength and love our neighbour as ourselves (Luke 10:27); live holy lives (1
Peter 1:16); attend church (Hebrews 10:25), pray (1 Peter 5:7) read the
Bible (2 Timothy 2:15) and to do good to others (Hebrews 13:16) - Christ will return and Christians will be raised to spend eternity with Him (1
Corinthians 15:51-52). Non-Christians will spend an eternity in an eternal
fire (Matthew 25:41) - We practise baptism and regular participation in the Lord’s Supper. Our church is
governed by elders who acknowledge their responsibility (Acts 20:28 and Hebrews
13:17)
